X-Mas Lights Switch-on 2009

Last sunday (15th November) saw Harlow Town Centre switch on its
Christmas lights once again, and it sure didn't disappoint! With a variety of different acts performing throughout the day,
Harlow Steelband included, a glow-stick parade through the high street, finished off with a stunning fireworks display to mark the
turning on of the lights, the day was one to remember.
The band performed twice throughout the day, the first
performance being in the market square and the second being inside the Harvey Centre. The performances featured crowd favourites
such as In The Mood and Hot Hot Hot, but also included a surprise Christmas Medley, which went down a storm!
Photos will
be available soon.
Hopefully, the steelband will be back performing in the town centre this December, to be confirmed -
watch this space!

Harlow Town Show 2009

On Saturday 6th September, Harlow Steelband performed at the annual Town
Show in Harlow. Playing from around 11am to 6pm, we attracted a lot of attention, with a regular crowd gathering to hear the
music and support the band.
Harlow Steelband have been performing at Harlow Town Show for a number of years now, with
our performance each time improving drastically. Our first public performance of our second-place piece in Junior Panorama since
the competition took place here, along with many crowd favourites, such as Hot Hot Hot, American Boy and In The Mood.
Between sets, the band relaxed and enjoyed the number of different rides, attractions, stalls and marquees that the show has
to offer every year. If you missed us this time round, no doubt we will be there next year, so keep an eye out for our booked gigs
on our events page!
If you are interested in booking the band for a gig, however big or small, please do not hesitate to
contact us. For more information please visit the Contacts page on the website.
Overall the day was a huge success: the
sun was shining, the atmosphere was electric and everyone had a blast. Looking forward to next year already!

Celebrating the good news

Following our recent success with 2nd place at Junior Panorama on
Monday 10th August, Harlow Steelband celebrated with a barbeque and party at Sumners Centre on Saturday 15th August. This party
also celebrated the 14th birthday of Desirée Barwick! Friends and family were all present to congratulate the band and wish
Desirée a happy birthday. However, the steelband will be taking a well-deserved break to wind down and relax, performing at
Harlow Town Show on Sunday 6th September before taking some time out until October. Remember to come along to see and support the
band during this event, in which we will be performing our Junior Panorama entry song - Thunder!
Thanks again to family,
friends and supporters who are a vital part in the success of the band.

2nd Place at Junior Panorama!!
|
Wednesday, 12th Aug, 09
|
|
For the first time since the band has been running, we competed
in Junior Panorama on Monday 10th August. Performing after bands CSI and CSO, Harlow Steelband were awarded 2nd place, which is a
huge honour for all of us.

Our
performance piece, Thunder (originally by Kes The Band, arranged by our tutor, Sam Dubois), was developed from our performance in
Pan Explosion and lasted just over 8 minutes, which is the longest piece the band has learned to date. We had a staggering
reception, with spectators giving nothing but praise towards the band's efforts, and the results of said efforts were equally as
brilliant.

To see the band's stunning debut
performance at Junior Panorama, please follow this link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dk0SG36BECw (the sound quality of the video is not brilliant, hopefully a
better-sounding video will be available soon).

All band members agree that this was surely a
day to remember, and we are extremely pleased to walk away from the competition with 2nd place. We look forward to competing in
the future, and perhaps leaving with the 1st place prize... We will have to wait and see!
Remember to come and see the
band at Harlow Town Show on Sunday 6th September at the Town Park in Harlow - we will be performing Thunder again!
Thanks to everyone who helped with making all this possible, from arranging rehearsals to organising outfits - we wouldn't
be where we are today without you.
