23rd Sep moth trapping, by Simon Buckingham, resulted in 34 moths of 16 species including a new micro moth for the reserve list in the form of Acleris sparsana. Also in the trap was a Mottled Sedge caddis fly (Glyphotaelius pellucidus) which had only been recorded as a nymph in the pond up until this year - then an adult was recorded down by the sluice last week - so this is only the second record of an adult.

Autumn is definitely upon us resulting in cooler nights and reduced catches. 64 moths of 18 species came from the Moth traps of Simon Buckingham on the night of 3rd Sep. Of interest was Frosted Orange (3rd Oct) which was new for the reserve list and Lilac Beauty (3rd Sep) which was a first record for Simon for the reserve, but note that it is already on the ML list from a record in 1983.

Simon Buckingham ran a couple of traps at the reserve on 26th Aug 2017 which yielded 219 moths of 48 species. Four of these were new for the reserve list - White-point (26th Aug), Dark Sword-grass (26th Aug) and the micros (**) Agriphila geniculea ** (26th Aug) and Cochylis hybridella ** (26th Aug).

Simon Buckingham had a reasonable haul from the reserve on the night of 4th Aug 2017 including Poplar Hawkmoth and an Oak Hook-tip (has an old record on the reserve from 1983) of 223 moths in total of 53 species. There were four new micros for the reserve list - Agonopterix arenella ** (4th Aug), Bucculatrix bechsteinella ** (4th Aug), Phyllocnistis unipunctella ** (4th Aug) and Phyllonorycter oxyacanthae ** (4th Aug).

Simon Buckingham had a decent haul on night of 29th Jul 2017 from the reserve despite the lousy weather. He recorded 355 moths of 61 species, 3 of which were new to the reserve
