After a break of a mini- break of a season (and a half) the famous Nazeing Common Fantasy League is back and this season it promises to be bigger than ever! Well ok, we’ve got more players available to choose from than ever before and hopefully, with a bit of help from yourselves we’ll beat the 64 Fantasy League teams that entered in 2006.

I’m sure that many of you remember the rules of the competition but there may be a few of you who are new to the NCCC FL, so here’s a (hopefully) simple explanation of those rules.

Firstly and probably most importantly, any money raised from the FL goes straight back into Nazeing Common Cricket Club, so even if your in last place in the FL at the end of the season, don’t feel embarrassed, just smile and think to yourself that you’ve provided £5 towards your new pavilion, oh and we’ll also provide you with a consolation prize, normally one of Danesies prize possessions!!

 What are the Rules?

A team of eleven players has to be selected from the large array of Nazeing Common players shown below. Unfortunately, you only have the small sum of 55p to spend on your eleven players and the side must comprise of 4 Batsmen, 1 Wicket Keeper, 1 All Rounder and 5 Bowlers.

The values of each player have been worked out from last seasons statistics and to make it doubly difficult, your side must contain one of either a Junior player or one of our Lady players, both are shown in bold and italics to assist you, although no Fantasy League team name containing the words “Grand” and “Derriere” is allowed to have a female player!

As the season progresses we’re likely to add more players to the list and you are allowed to make up to five changes during the season for no extra cost. We will try and publish a Fantasy League Table every week on the website and in the Clubhouse to keep you updated.

 How do I score points?

I’ve amended the scoring system slightly from a couple of seasons ago, as it appeared slightly biased towards the batsman. Hopefully now the scoring system will even itself out and next season we may even have a 10p bowler!!!

Batting - 1 point per run, minus 20 points for a duck, except those shown as a Bowler. Plus 10 points per 50 in an innings and plus 20 points per 100 in an innings.

Bowling - 30 points per wicket, minus 1 point per run conceded. Plus 10 points per 3 wickets in an innings and plus 30 points per 5 wickets in an innings.

Fielding - 5 points per catch and 20 points per stumping.

But Sturds, How do I enter?

The Nazeing Common Fantasy League will start on Saturday 23rd May 2009 and points will be scored on every adult game, including League, friendly, midweek and all tour fixtures except 20 over games.

I would like you to send me your entries as soon as possible. You can enter the NCCC FL in a number of ways, either by e-mailing me at sturds@hotmail.co.uk or simply by filling out a form and leaving it at the Club for me to collect.

Please remember to try and give your team a witty name, something along the lines of “Akis’ Antwerp Admirers” or similar will suffice and an entry fee of £5 will be charged, with as mentioned before, all funds going to the Club.

 What will I win?

Well probably not a great deal but you will have the satisfaction of knowing that you are the most knowledgeable Nazeing Common Cricket Cricketer in the Club and we’ll also throw in a £50 bonus for the ultimate Champion. Good Luck.
